Current programs and services provided by Estamos Unidos to the Latino community include:

  • Hablando Espaņol – A summer camp, which strengthens Spanish language skills and promote culture awareness in children. Teachers and volunteers teach children how to speak and write Spanish through immersion and provide an introduction to the Hispanic culture, traditions and values of the Latino community.

  • “Improving our Education” – A program in collaboration with School Districts and High Schools such as John Harris to encourage kids keep studying and deter early High School drop-outs. In addition, in collaboration with College and universities such as Harrisburg University and Harrisburg Area Community College this program promote and inspire students to pursuit pos-secondary education in getting guidance to explore career opportunities and financial aid in their transition to college.

  • Latino Identity Reaffirmation Day – In collaboration with the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Latino Affairs, Estamos Unidos has developed a program to promote diversity and cultural awareness. This program is dedicated to recognize the history, culture and contributions of Latino countries and communities in this commonwealth as well as in the country.

  • Multicultural Picnics – For the past five years Estamos Unidos has sponsored the Multicultural Picnic to give people and basically families, the opportunity to meet and greet into a family environment and recognize community leadership and efforts in strength our community; it has brought friendship, fun, food, traditional contest, sport games and dance competition. In addition, bilingual teachers, pastors & ministers, youth achievement, sport leadership and Latino business owners has been recognized for their contribution in creating wider opportunities and economic development in central Pennsylvania.

  • Leadership, Informative workshops and Conferences. These events have been developed to educate young students, adults, and community leaders in understanding issues such as leadership, parenting skills, personal budgeting, business development, wellness and so forth. For instance, “Your Health Matters” workshop is a program, which shows how to understand the basic health care of adults and children such as cancer prevention, immunizations, nutrition, and guidelines for stress management.

  • “Children Christmas Party-La fiesta del Niņo” (Toys for Tots) – A Christmas Party for underprivileged children in Harrisburg and particularly in the Allison Hill area.  People support and commitment has brought a pleasant time for families in December holidays and those who share the solidarity of Christmas. For instance, In December of 2006, in John Harris, over 400 kids and their families received toys and a free meal.  At least 60 volunteers prepared food, wrapping gifts and entertainment for over 800 persons

  • Latino Gala Night. A social and cultural gathering to promote cultural awareness while sharing traditions, art, values and getting funds for our programs. It is the major fundraiser which is not just an event to collect money, but an opportunity for networking, connections, and friendship development in a diverse and multicultural environment
